Energy Transition Index
The World Economic Forum's Energy Transition Index (ETI) scores countries from 0 to 100 on how well their energy systems currently perform on equity, security and sustainability, and on how ready they are for the transition (regulation, investment, infrastructure, innovation and human capital). For India, a large and fast-growing energy consumer that still relies heavily on fossil fuels, it tracks progress on access, affordability and decarbonisation against other economies. India scored 54.9 and ranked 70th of 120 countries in the 2026 edition.
2026 edition (renamed 'Energy Transition Index 2026') replaced the SAIDI/SAIFI reliability indicators and added new indicators (44 in total); it says India 'advanced two places', i.e. against a restated 2025 rank, not the 71st published in the 2025 edition.
