Global Gender Gap Index

The World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Index scores how far each economy has closed the gap between women and men on a 0-1 scale (1 = parity), across four subindexes: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment. It measures gaps rather than absolute levels, so it shows where Indian women stand compared with Indian men. India scored 0.645 and ranked 131st of 145 economies in the 2026 edition (131st of 148 in 2025); its weakest subindex ranking is Economic Participation and Opportunity, where it scores 0.412 and ranks 143rd.
