Government AI Readiness Index
The Government AI Readiness Index, published by Oxford Insights, scores national governments on their capacity to harness artificial intelligence for public benefit; the 2025 edition covers 195 governments across six pillars (policy capacity, AI infrastructure, governance, public sector adoption, development and diffusion, and resilience). For India it is a benchmark of whether national AI policy, digital public infrastructure and compute investment are building state capacity relative to other governments. India ranked 27th of 195 with a score of 66.55 in the 2025 edition, the highest in South and Central Asia.
New six-pillar framework in 2025. The first release (December 2025, uploads/2025/12/2025-Government-AI-Readiness-Index-2.pdf) printed India 21st with incorrect data; Oxford Insights issued corrected scores and rankings in a January 2026 version and re-issued it in May 2026 with an identical rankings table (used here).
