ND-GAIN Country Index
The ND-GAIN Country Index, from the University of Notre Dame, scores more than 180 countries from 0 to 100 on how vulnerable they are to climate change and how ready they are to turn investment into adaptation, aggregating 45 core indicators across food, water, health, ecosystems, habitat and infrastructure plus economic, governance and social readiness. ND-GAIN places India in the high-vulnerability, low-readiness quadrant of its matrix (73rd most vulnerable and 117th most ready country), signalling both urgent adaptation needs and a large investment gap. In the 2026 release India scored 44.4 for 2024 and ranked 112th of 190 countries.
