Social Progress Index
The Global Social Progress Index scores 171 countries from 0 to 100 on 57 social and environmental outcome indicators (nutrition, water and sanitation, housing, safety, education, information access, health, environment, rights, freedom, inclusion and advanced education), deliberately excluding economic indicators. It shows how well a country turns its economic resources into quality of life, which lets India's social outcomes be compared directly with peers rather than inferred from income. In the 2026 edition (2025 data) India scored 58.79 and ranked 109th of 171.
Latest point; published as the 2026 Global Social Progress Index (released January 2026). Series is the 2026 edition's recalculated 2011-2025 time series, not the figures printed in earlier editions.
