WJP Rule of Law Index
The World Justice Project Rule of Law Index scores countries from 0 to 1 on eight factors - constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice and criminal justice - using household surveys and legal-expert questionnaires rather than official statistics. It matters for India because contract enforcement, court delays and corruption shape investment and everyday access to justice. In the 2025 edition India scored 0.49 and ranked 86th of 143 countries and jurisdictions.
